Connection Analysis

MSBW01: Bandwidth is much lower than speed attainable for the route being tested.

The relationship between the connection latency and the throughput speed is well defined. Obviously the latency to a server that is near is lower than the latency to a server that is more distant. The same is true for cars on the highway, the journey time to a location and back will be closely related to the distance between the two points. Taking a friend to the airport a mile away will be a quicker round trip than driving to an airport 50 miles away. As the latency for a connection climbs then eventually the attainable throughput speed will become limited by the route latency rather than the bandwidth provided. However in this test the latency to the server is low and the results show that the route between the client and the server can sustain speeds well in excess of the bandwidth measured for the connection. This is not a problem, however if this is a business connection which is regularly used, maybe a route between two office locations, then a much better data throughput speed will be achieved if the bandwidth is increased.
